ELECTRICITY ESTABLISHMENT
Any public utility undertaking which is engaged in generation, transmission and distribution of electricity (except self-generating stations).

WATT
Watt is a unit of power. A watt is defined as the rate of doing one-joule (J) of work in one second. Common units of power are multiples of the watt. These are as under:
                                                             One Watt (W)                  =      1    J/S
                                                             One Kilowatt (KW)           =      103 J/S
                                                             One Megawatt (MW)        =      106 J/S
                                                             One Gigawatt (GW)         =      109 J/S

KILOWATT-HOUR
Kilowatt-hour is a precise measure of energy and work. It is the work equivalent to 1000 watts (Joules per second) over one hour time.

                                                             Work                                    =          Power x Time
One Kilowatt hour (Kwh)         =         3.6x103 Joules
One Million watt hour (Mwh)    =         3.6x106 Joules
One Giga watt hour (Gwh)      =         3.6x109 Joules

AUXILIARIES CONSUMPTION
Electricity consumed in the power stations during the process of electricity generation.

SYSTEM LOSSES
Electricity lost in the process of transmission and distribution.

TRACTION
Electricity consumed by the electric engines of Pakistan Railways.

BULK SUPPLY
Electricity sold in bulk to distributing licensees.

VALUE ADDED
It means the difference between the value of electricity sold and industrial cost.

INDUSTRIAL COST
It consists of cost of fuel, lubricants, spare parts and repairs & maintenance.

FIXED ASSETS
These consist of land, buildings, plant and machinery, transport and equipment, furniture and fixture etc. which are expected to have productive life of more than one year and are in use by the establishment for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The census frame i.e. names and addresses of all the electricity establishments (Public Sector) is obtained from the ministry of water and Power, Islamabad and the list of electricity establishments in private sector is obtained from the Private Power & Infrastructure Board, Ministry of Water and Power, Islamabad.

The census of electricity establishments is conducted through mail enquiry. Blank census questionnaires are dispatched to all the electricity establishments as per census frame. Filled in census returns are retrieved back through vigorous follow up through correspondence, fax and telephonic contacts. In some cases assistance of FBS Regional Office is also sought to expedite the outstanding census returns.
