Main Objectives & Methodology

National Accounts provide a set of Statistical data for the purpose of economic analysis, decision taking and policy making. It is widely used as indicator of economic activity and measures the performance of the economy and other important parameters such as GDP/GNP, Investment, Savings, Inflation etc. The Quinquennial exercises like construction of Input Output Table and Institutional Sector Accounts shows the inter-industry transactions and flows of transactions among the institutions such as general government, household, NPIs, Financial and Non-financial Sectors. Pakistan National Accounts estimates are prepared in the light of the System of National Accounts (SNA) 1993. A combination of approaches viz production,

income and expenditure approaches are used for derivation of GDP. The compilation for the quarterly estimates on GDP and Investment is in hand.

Periodicity

The periodicity of the estimates of GDP, Investment and Expenditure series is annual and is based on new base year 1999-2000.
